Free As a Bird – Dark Flash Fiction #7 (NSFW)

I mean, look at me.

I don’t even bother to put on makeup anymore. I used to be pretty. I used to be really hot. And there’s this part of me, that, you know… knows. Just knows he’s seeing someone else.

And that’s when I realize I’m destined to be alone.

Some people are just destined to be alone. So why waste time? Why not make that happen now? If you have to do something, and you’re miserable about it, you might as well get it over with.

But I’ll tell you what. She won’t be fucking anybody’s man anymore.

She’ll think twice about that.

Sometimes I think he wanted me to do it. Like he was willing to sacrifice his life so I would spend the rest of mine behind bars. Some people are just that vindictive.

They carry that cross to make you think they’re the victim when in fact they’re the guilty ones.

Duh. Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out.

So he preferred her over me. Tan over ivory. Blonde over brunette. Young and wistful over controlled and educated. Fine.

Fine, I said. You can have her. But it will come at a price.

It.

Will.

Come.

At.

A.

Puh-RICE!

Do you think he has regrets?

Do you think he feels like he won?

He didn’t.

I did.

I won.
